Follow these nine top tips which will your browsing experience silky smooth!

-Requirements -
***FireFox (Windows)***
***FireFox (MAC)***

1. Open firefox and type the following in the address bar: about:config

2. Right click> New> integer

This image has been resized.Click to view original image

3. a window will come up name it: layout’s.initialpaint.delay

(After this, click the ok button)

4. Another box will come up change that to: 0

This image has been resized.Click to view original image

Now, in the filter box which is located just below the addressbar and tabs, is something called the filter bar. It’s role is to sort out the text and it narrows down what you type in the box

5. Type the following in the filter bar: network.http.proxy.pipelining
once located double click so it is then set to true and not false

This image has been resized.Click to view original image

6. Do the same to: network.http.pipelining

7. Now, you will see both are set to true

8. Try to find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Double click on that and a window will come up, then change that to around “1000″ though you can go higher (some people say 30) i just havent tried it yet but sometimes if you do go higher it doesnt go as fast but “1000″ loads really abruptly.

This image has been resized.Click to view original image

9 ok now that that is what step 5-8 should look like

This image has been resized.Click to view original image

^^EXTRAS^^^^
**NOTE::**
–If your pc is already abnormally quick and you have a fast internet service provider (ISP), then you probably will not notice much difference in browsing speed. However, with these tips who know’s how fast your browsing speed can become!

– In addition, if you would like to increase the speed of your virtual ram, use these instructions below:

1) Go into your Control Panel

2) Go to Performance and Maintenance

3) Click on the Advanced tab

4) Under the Performance panel, click Settings

5) On the window that pops up, you should be on the “Visual Effects” tab…navigate to Advanced

6) On the bottom panel where it says “Virtual Memory,” click change

7) Change the initial size to about 3000 and change the max to 4096

Did you find this article useful? Are there any other tips you’d like to add? Please feel free to comment below!<icc-first-publish><in-context-comment:auto-on>

For example, I like to partition my hard drive to separate the Windows System from Programs and my Files, so instead of using the default location (usually under C:\Program Files\) I will be installing Apache on drive D: and keeping the local copy of my website(s) on drive E: …

INSTALLATION

1. Download Apache 2 [ http://httpd.apache.org/ ] & Run the Installer

2. At the “Server Information” page:

* enter “localhost” for Network Domain and Server Name
* and anything for Administrator’s Email Address
* leave the default setting “for All Users, on Port 80, as a Service” as it is

3. At Setup Type, select “Typical”

4. At Destination Folder

* select where you want the Apache program to be installed, e.g. D:\Apache2.2\

CONFIGURATION

1. In Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> “Apache2″

* stop the service (nb. you cannot edit the configuration file while Apache is running, so the service MUST be stopped before the next step)
* and change the startup type to “Manual”

2. Use a basic text editor (e.g. notepad) to open the file “httpd.conf” in the folder “%Apache2%\conf\” (where %Apache2% is the path you set in step 4 above i.e. D:\Apache2.2\conf\httpd.conf)

3. Search for the text “server-side includes” and delete the hashes at the beginning of these following lines:

#AddType text/html .shtml
#AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml

Thus, they should read like this:

AddType text/html .shtml
AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml

4. Search for “DocumentRoot” and edit the following line:

DocumentRoot "%Apache2%/htdocs"

to point to the path where you want to save your website(s), e.g:

DocumentRoot "E:/home"

5. and just below that you will find the line:

<Directory />

Do not edit it, but look below that you will find the same line again. Edit:

<Directory />

to read:

<Directory "E:/home">

6. a few lines further down you should find:

Options Indexes FollowSymLinks

Edit it so it reads like below:

Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI

7. Search for the following line:

#AddHandler cgi-script .cgi

and delete the hash so it reads:

AddHandler cgi-script .cgi

8. a few lines below that you will find:

#AddType text/html .shtml
#AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml

delete the hashes so these lines read:

AddType text/html .shtml
AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml

9. Scroll to the end of the file and add these lines, one group tailored for each of your local websites (note each must have a unique URL 127.0.0.xxx):

<NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
DocumentRoot "E:/home/georgedillon.com"
ServerName georgedillon.com
ErrorLog "E:/home/georgedillon.com/logs/error.log"
CustomLog "E:/home/georgedillon.com/logs/localaccess.log" common
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "E:/home/georgedillon.com/cgi-bin/"
</VirtualHost>
<Directory "E:/home/georgedillon.com/cgi-bin">
Options +ExecCGI
</Directory>

<NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.2>
DocumentRoot "E:/home/stevenberkoff.com"
ServerName stevenberkoff.com
ErrorLog "E:/home/stevenberkoff.com/logs/error.log"
CustomLog "E:/home/stevenberkoff.com/logs/localaccess.log" common
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "E:/home/stevenberkoff.com/cgi-bin/"
</VirtualHost>
<Directory "E:/home/stevenberkoff.com/cgi-bin">
Options +ExecCGI
</Directory>

IMPORTANT: The 2 log files ErrorLog and CustomLog MUST EXIST for EVERY website listed here, or Apache will crash when it starts

10. Save the file and close the text editor

TESTING:

1. Right click on the Apache Service Monitor icon in the Taskbar and click ‘Start’
2. If you have followed the steps above correctly, in the upper (Service Status) window the icon next to Apache 2.2 will turn green and in the lower window you will see the message “The Apache2.2 service has started.”
3. Open a browser and type in the address bar http://127.0.0.1/ and your website will appear
4. IF Apache does not start correctly, then check that you have followed all the steps above accurately, that all paths are correct and that the log files exist for each virtual host.

Over time, the speed of computers with Microsoft Windows can decrease. This appears as the system taking more time to respond to a user’s actions like opening files, folders, surfing the Internet and other tasks. However, there are things you can do to speed up your computer. The following is a list of ways you can improve your computer’s performance. These steps are intended to be used in order. The key is to do the simplest and least invasive thing first until your system starts responding better. Golden Rule: Do No Harm If you want to improve the speed of your computer, that’s great. However, above all, do no harm and beyond the scope of this Windows forum, ask for help from those you know if you get in over your head. Remember: you have time. You can stop most processes I discuss without causing harm. Caution and common sense go a long way when working with computers; problems are often much easier to fix than they appear. Steps to Speed Up Your Computer’s Performance 1.

Golden Rule: Do No Harm

If you want to improve the speed of your computer, that’s great. However, above all, do no harm and beyond the scope of this Windows forum, ask for help from those you know if you get in over your head. Remember: you have time. You can stop most processes I discuss without causing harm. Caution and common sense go a long way when working with computers; problems are often much easier to fix than they appear.<in-context-comment:auto:0>

Steps to Speed Up Your Computer’s Performance

1. Make Sure Your Hardware is Sufficient

Above and beyond everything you can do with software to optimize the function of your computer, making sure you have the proper hardware to support Windows is critical. Here are minimums that I recommend:

* For XP – A computer with a Pentium processor, at least 512MB of RAM (operating memory), preferably 1 to 2 GB of memory and an 80GB hard drive or larger.

* For Vista – A computer with any dual-core processor, 2 to 3 GB of RAM and a 160 GB or larger hard drive.

These hardware configurations will minimize Page Filing (swapping programs in and out of memory and onto the hard drive) and assure that your computer has enough horsepower to run the operating system. Upgrading memory (RAM) is the cheapest and easiest thing you can do to improve the performance of your computer.

2. Clean Your Desktop

Is your Windows Desktop dotted with files? Have you noticed that your computer has been running slower and slower? Do you see the hard drive light often flashing while you wait for the computer to respond to an action? There are steps you can take to fix it. Read this article.

3. Scan Your Windows System for Errors

An operating system is a collection of files that perform different functions. It is possible, over time, that one or more of these system files has changed or become corrupted. If this happens, the speed of your system may decrease. By using a utility called “System File Checking”, it will inspect these files and correct any problem it finds.

4. Scan for Viruses, Spyware and Adware

Every Windows computer is vulnerable to viruses. Viruses are nasty little programs that cause both major and minor problems for users.

Spyware and Adware are programs created by companies to find out more information about customers, so they can better market products to them. Usually these programs are not created for malicious purposes. Spyware and Adware can load into computer memory and slow it down.

Periodically scanning and removal of Viruses, Spyware and Adware is a great way to improve computer performance.

5. Uninstall Unused Programs

Over time, you may have accumulated programs on your computer that you do not use. When a program is installed, it creates connections between the program and the operating system. Even if you don’t use these programs, they can slow down your system. If you have the original program’s installation disk or file, removing programs will free up space on your computer and may speed up your system’s performance.<in-context-comment:auto:1>

6. Adjust Visual Effects for Better Performance

Windows provides a number of interesting visual effects including animated windows and fading menus. If you do not have enough operating memory (see above number 1), these effects can slow down your computer. Adjusting or reducing visual effects can make a difference.

7. Don’t Automatically Start Programs

Programs use operating memory (RAM, also called system resources). Unless you always use these programs, you can keep them from loading at Windows startup and speed both the booting of your computer and its performance.

Drefragging you hard drive can be suicidal if done wrong.

8. Defragment Your Hard Drive (After you have tried everything else)

The more information and programs you have on your computer, the more it is likely that Windows has placed parts of the same file in different locations on your hard drive. It may do this for hundreds of files and programs, depending on how much space is available. Defragmenting the hard drive places all information for each file in one place. The result can be a faster computer experience.<in-context-comment:auto:2>

Important Note: Before you even try this, backup all your work onto a different computer, hard drive, CD or disk. Also, you should only do this if you have a reliable source of power for your computer. Doing this when there is a brown out or power problem in the neighborhood, is not a good idea. If a computer turns off while it is defragmenting a drive, it will create more problems than not defragmenting it in the first place.<in-context-comment:auto:3>

Are there are any others to speeding up your computer that isn’t here and is very important? Please feel free to comment below<icc-first-publish><in-context-comment:auto-on>

Have you scrolled across processes tab in Windows Task Manager and realised that there are a dozen svchost.exe running? You have tried to get rid of them but you just can’t, well in this post I will try to simplify svchost.exe thus by the end you will know what it is and why there are so many running!

Meaning of svchost.exe

Microsoft help and support deem svchost.exe to be a “generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs.)” Ok, well in simpler and english terms, the history behind it is that Microsoft transferred all of the files from the internal Windows services to .dll files, without actually using .exe files. This was deemed as a huge mistake because it means that each user are unable to open a .dll file from Windows as it has to be opened through a .exe file. Hence, the svchost.exe was programmed.

*Note .dll means dynamic link library and .exe is a file name extention meaning an executable file.

Why are there fourteen of these svchost.exe files running simultaneously?

Here, you can see all the services running and which ones are needed or not and be sure that the show processes from all users box is ticked.

Well, there are many of these similar programs running because if you think about it, your operating system, Windows, has many services that are important to run and thus if there was one huge svchost.exe file and it failed, the whole system would fall. Therefore, having indivisual files for these services would prevent any failures. You may be wondering what the services are for. It’s really quite simple. The services are ordered into congruent groups and each of these svchost.exe files are made for each specified group. For example one svchost.exe could be for the UI ( User Interface.)

Your role

As an admin of your PC/Laptop, you are able to stop unecessary services by disabling them. The key problem seem to have is finding which services are needed for each svchost.exe file. You can do this by the tasklist command or go-to-service tab which will be explained further down.

In addition, users may find they have a high CPU usage one indivisual svchost.exe file and if you know it is definitely an anomoly, you can restart the services under that name without anything being affected in the system.

Identifying and checking particular svchost.exe files from the Command Line – For Vista and XP.

To check which services are being hosted by specific svchost.exe files, you can use the tasklist command from the command prompt using the command:

tasklist /SVC

However, users tend not to use this command as the services that occur are unclear to the human eye.

Checking through Task Manager – Vista Only

In task manager, you can right-click on any svchost.exe file and then select the “Go to Service(s)” option. Thus, this will direct you to the Services Tab and highlight the services running under that svchost.exe file as seen below.

Using this option, it enables you to see the proper name under the Description heading, thus making it even easier to choose which services to cancel.

Disabling services via Control Panel – for all platforms.

In order to disable some unwanted services you should either go to

Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services or

Start/Run/services.msc.

Once you are at Services, you should identify a useless service and then right click on it and select properties, as displayed below.

For the second part of disabling a particular service, change the Startup Type to Disabled and then click the stop button for full effect to take place as you can see below.

Lastly, you could utilize the command script to disable the service instead of using the control panel if you please. For example, in this service the command would be Apple Mobile Device. Thus the command would be as follows,

sc config applemobiledevice start= disabled

This concludes the tutorial on svchost.exe and I hope this has helped you with the puzzling svchost.exe file. I have explained what it is, why there are so many of these running and what you can do about it. If there are any unanswered queries about the confusing svchost.exe, please feel free to comment below.

1. about:config This has to be one of the most interesting things you can do with Firefox. You can customize the browser completely with this, and I’ll just show you a select few of useful features. So to start, I will demonstrate how to speed up your browsing.

In the address bar, type about:config and promise to be careful…

Use the filter tool to find network.http.pipelining double click on it so it becomes True

Filter again for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and set it to a value like 8 (or greater if your really desperate..)

Another filter! plugin.expose_full_path and again, double click.

Filter this time for network.http.proxy.pipelining and make it true, by double clicking again.

Again, filter for network.dns.disableIPv6 again, double click on this to make it true.

These are the basics, and there is a lot more in there to play with if you know what you are doing, though this will speed up your browser indefinitely.

2. Addons There are some really good add-ons that I recommend you use, which you can see below:

Adblock Plus

For the developers: FireBug

DownThemAll

Xmarks

Stumble upon – Great for killing time

3. Mouse Shortcuts

Zoom in and out of the site that you are viewing with ctrl + mouse wheel.

To open a link in a new tab, middle click on it. To close a tab, middle click on it.

To open a blank tab, double click on the tab bar where there are no tabs.

4. Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl + t opens a new tab (many know this all ready).

Ctrl + tab moves one tab to the right.

Ctrl + r does the same as f5 (reloads the page)

Esc stops the page from loading.

If you type something in the address bar, and press ctrl + enter, it automatically changes it into www.[your text].com

Ctrl 1 – 9 changes to the corresponding tab.

Ctrl + d bookmarks the current page.

Ctrl + Shift + Del deletes private data (ie. history, passwords, cookies etc)

There are many more, but thats not for just now.

5. Dragging and Dropping You can drag items all over the place in firefox, for example, to quickly bookmark a page, you can simply drag its favicon into your bookmarks menu or toolbar. You can also drag links into your bookmarks. If you drag a link on a site into the address bar, you will be taken to that page. If you drag a link into the search bar, you will automatically search it. You can select text, and then drag it into the search bar. <in-context-comment:auto:1>

6.Customizing toolbars

You can change the way your toolbars look by going into View > Toolbars > Customize then playing with the different things. Currently mine isn’t too different, as you can see below.

If you want to get it back to how it was originally, just go into that menu, and press Restore Default Set

7. Various

You can set keywords for bookmarks, these can be set when you bookmark it initially, or afterwards by right clicking on the bookmark >>properties >> and then typing in your keyword in the “Keyword” field.

If you install the StumbleUpon addon, you can stumble in another tab by middle clicking on the “Stumble!” button.

Thankyou for reading and if you have anything to add to this list, feel free to by commenting below as well as any other feedback.

We have all heard of hackers, and what they are capable of doing, the simple way to prevent them is not to give them anything to feed off. If you are not familiar with the term “hacker”, an example in the tech industry is the Mikeyy worm (hacker name: Michael Mooney) who breached the popular micro-blogging service, Twitter. You would be quite amazed at how easily you can be compromised, lots of computer networks tend to be vulnerable and are so easily hacked. You would have thought that, the way technology is advancing, the networking region would have become more efficient and safe. But you would be mistaken. A few years ago, only people who were advanced and cautious about their computer networking and had sufficient know-how, would set up networks. Therefore, they could keep to keep any hackers at bay, at least from their network. Nowadays, anyone and everyone set up home networks. There are now, many more “newbie’s” in comparison to advanced networkers.

People tend to go through the network installation process ignoring any software/hardware protection; likely to be using a basic set-up which, as we know can be their biggest downfall. Another 10 minutes of a user’s time, exploring how to secure their network, is the defining moment which makes your network hack-proof or not.

What would happen if you are compromised? It isn’t too bad, is it?

Your unguarded network could lead to:

- Crackers (expert hackers) can connect to your private data.

- Offenses that you didn’t even comit, as hackers can make it look like it was you. Violating the DDoS (distributed denial of service attack.)

- Someone could download off your network constantly, making you exceed your download limit, thus being charged excessive amounts of money by your Internet Service Provider.

Well, that’s a small list of ways of how badly things could turn out for you, as a result of being hacked. Let’s move onto a more positive note, and address how to stop this from occuring!

Home Networking – Hardware Security

“Home networks” often refers to more than two devices, one directly connected to the internet, the other part of the network. These devices could be associated with your network as well as many others,

Cable or DSL modems

Printers

Routers

Firewalls

Smartphone

VoIP (Voice over Internet protocol) phones

Games Consoles (PS3, Xbox, Wii)

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a strong, unique password. You will be less likely to be hacked if your password is secure (i.e. contains different types of characters and is 9+ characters long. When setting up a password, do not make it about a place, name or any other common words, as people will try to guess them and may end up guessing correctly. In any case, if you choose such a password, it probably won’t have be complex enough and can be hacked easily.

Take the time to choose a contrasting password for each piece of hardware, as it will keep your network security levels sky high!

Firewalls and Routers

Firewalls are remarkably useful in protecting your home network. They are part of the network, which aids in you in tracking the events between your internet connection and network. It has the ability to block any permitted access in an attempt to stop people breaching your network. Firewall security settings are genuinely there to help you, not irritate you, so the more the settings that are limited, the more protected you are from hackers, though many users find it quite aggravating as it can block your favourite and frequently used sites from time to time.

Routers are the most important fragment of hardware you need to configure, in order to have an impenetrable home network. You must set a healthy, unthinkable admin password and, remember to enable encryption. Generally, conventional routers have two encryption options, WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and WEP ( Wired Equivalent Privacy.) If given the choice, always go for WPA as it is more secure.

Home Networking- Software Security

In order to maxmize protection, we recommend you take a look at a couple of software applications,

Anti-virus software such as AVG

Anti-spyware programs such as Ad-Aware

Anti-Virus software helps avert and remove all kinds of dangerous malware such as Trojans and Worms, which you could really do without However, do not go over the top with these applications meaning you shouldn’t have more than one antivirus program installed, as it will slow down your computer speed and will install unnecessary updates. To keep on top of your home security, make sure you run a full-scan every couple of days to ensure there are no viruses and hackers lurking.

An appealing fact was published in an article I read saying that hackers, tend to go for Windows Operating Systems as the majority of the public use Windows, so if you’re a Mac or Linux user you are , to some degree, less in danger, but Windows users, please make sure you have an anti-virus running at all times.

Web Browser Security Settings

Yet another way to boost your security, is to disable cookies and java applications which for many people, soon becomes malware in their web browsers. Though, some sites will be blocked as the administrative settings do not think it is suitable, but you should abide by them, as it will still block other sites which are harmful to you.

Lastly, if you tend to go away on business trips or holidays out of town, it is a good idea to turn off your internet router in your absence, because it will not show up on any hacker radars so your data is safer than it could be, and so there is no method of you being breached in that time period. Good idea, with minimal effort giving great results

I know that all these home networking remarks may be evident to most, but it is very surprising that many people forget these basic tips. These are not hard to do and to keep on track, but it may slip to the back of a computer user’s mind and will result in malware or possibly,a gap for a hacker to fill.

Having already made a review on the newly released Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, I would like to express a number of basic Ubuntu tips, which many of you may have heard of before but for the sake of the Ubuntu beginners, bear with me! These tips and tricks which I am going to explain will work practically on most Ubuntu distro’s, but not on all of them. Right, let’s start. Also, before I commence, if you have any other tips and tricks that would be useful to newcomers, feel free to leave it in the comments below! Alter the colour of your Ubuntu In order to change the colour of your Ubuntu, use the following command: sudo apt-get install gnome-color-chooser In future you can then discover the colours, under System >> Preferences. How to convert Ext2/Ext3 file system to Ext4 (in 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope) - Make sure you have Ubuntu 9.04 installed so that you have an Ext3 file-system. - Back-up all of your valued data. - To convert the partition, reboot from the real CD, and run this code: sudo bash tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda1 e2fsck -pf /dev/sda1 In this case, the partiton you need to convert is /dev/sda1.
Right, let’s start. Also, before I commence, if you have any other tips and tricks that would be useful to newcomers, feel free to leave it in the comments below!

Alter the colour of your Ubuntu

In order to change the colour of your Ubuntu, use the following command:

sudo apt-get install gnome-color-chooser

In future you can then discover the colours, under System >> Preferences.

How to convert Ext2/Ext3 file system to Ext4 (in 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope)

- Make sure you have Ubuntu 9.04 installed so that you have an Ext3 file-system.

- Back-up all of your valued data.

- To convert the partition, reboot from the real CD, and run this code:

sudo bash
tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda1
e2fsck -pf /dev/sda1

In this case, the partiton you need to convert is /dev/sda1.

- Next, you must change Ext3 to Ext4 quite simply like below,

# /dev/sda1
UUID=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX  /           ext3
relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1

Change this code to:

# /dev/sda1
UUID=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX  /           ext4
relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1

No doubt you can tell that all that has changed is Ext3 and Ext4! You now MUST save the changes.

If you are upgrading from ext2 to ext4, when converting the partition use this code instead:

sudo bashtune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index,has_journal /dev/sda1
e2fsck -pf /dev/sda1

That should be it for most people, all you need to restart your computer and voila, you are now running from an Ext 4 file system. However, if you come across the dreaded error 13 when restarting, it might be because it did not like one of the updates. This might help though,

sudo bashmount /dev/sda1 /mnt
grub-install /dev/sda --root-directory=/mnt --recheck

You have now successfully completed the conversion!

Finding valuable system information

To find useful system information:

Applications>> System Tools >> System Monitor

Or

sudo apt-get install sysinfo

How to download YouTube videos, and then convert them from .flv to .avi

sudo apt-get install youtube-dl ffmpeg

- Then use this code to download the video,

youtube-dl -o example.flv "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQyZLehrIUw"

- To convert the video to .avi format

ffmpeg -i example.flv example.avi

Just to let you know, you should edit the name of the video and video link. Mine is just an example, however it is a good video on one of the Britain’s Got Talent shows exposing the new hit wonder, DJ Talent. =)

How to kill processes rapidly

Many users tend to use the conventional kill, ps|aux or killall commands like

sudo killall firefox

However, there is a much better command that is a lot quicker and responsive, PKILL. If PKill searches for “Firefox”, it will amazingly find any process related to Firefox and dispose of it straight away. In addition to PKILL, pstree is a similar command that puts all the processes in a tree-like order, systematized by whoever is the program owner.

Initiate OpenOffice even more briskly

OpenOffice matches Ubuntu perfectly, a cost-free program with great features. Though, it also has the tendency to open very slowly in comparison to other programs; this really does agitate users. To make OpenOffice open faster, all you need to do is go to Start-up manager, well that is what it is called in version 9.04, and in other distro’s it is normally named the Sessions program.

System >> Preferences >> Startup Applications in order to find the program.

Then, add a new entry and in the command field, put in

openoffice -nodefault -nologo

The only thing that required now is to restart your system. It is now cached, so when the Gnome desktop begins, OpenOffice will also start, as it is basically moving it to a start up program and therefore making it start up super-fast.

Again, feel free to share new, valuable tips in the comment box below, as well as feedback on the tips and tricks I have composed.

This tutorial goes through the process of dual booting and shows you how to dual boot on your computer. To dual boot an operating system you need the .ISO image of the the operating system you want to install. For example you want to install “Ubuntu” on your computer which has Windows Xp or Windows Vista you can download the .ISO image from http://www.ubuntu.com/download and burn it to a disk.
If you would like to dual boot your computer with Windows 7 beta you can just Google“Windows 7 beta build 7000 torrent” and select one of the results to download the torrent. you need to have a torrent client like “utorrent” or “Bit torrent” to download torrents. If you would like to get more info on that click here.

If you don’t know what your doing then don’t do this! You can mess up your whole computer if you don’t know what you are doing.

NOTE: If you want to install UBUNTU then download wubi from here. Wubi installs ubuntu as a program in Windows so it is recommended that you install it this way.

To burn an .ISO image to a disk you need to have the right program to burn it to. Tech combo recommends that you use infra-recorder to burn the ISO file and burn it to an empty disk. You may burn the ISO image to a CD or DVD. if the ISO image is “less than” 700 MB then you can use a CD if it’s more than 700 MB then you should use a DVD, if its more than that then you’re gonna have to use a dual layer DVD which can hold up to 8.54 gigabytes. We are going to use Infra recorder (which you can download from here to burn the image. To burn an ISO image just follow the below steps<in-context-comment:auto:1>

1. Put an empty CD or DVD in your Optical drive (place where you put your CD or DVD)

2. Open Infra recorder and click on “Write Image”

3. Select the .ISO image and click open.

4. For write speed select the lowest speed possible to get
better results ( the higher the speed of burning process the greater the chance
of disk unfunctionality is possible)

5. Then click OK and wait for it to finish

After that make a new partition.

***Note: If you cancel the process your CD or DVD may not be usable again unless it is a CD-RW or DVD-RW.

To make a new partition follow these steps:

This process applies to Windows Xp and Windows Vista.

(You can also open run by Pressing Windows key+R on your keyboard if you’re on XP)

1. Click on start

2. Right click on Computer and click on “Manage”

3. from the left side bar click on “DISK MANAGEMENT”

which is Under Storage.

4. After that right click on your main hard disk

drive(”C drive”) and click on “Shrink Volume”

5. Then enter the amount of space you want to shrink it to (15 GB or more is recommended).

After you’ve made a new partition & burned the CD put it in the OPTICAL DRIVE or the place where you put CD or DVD, and change your boot order to DVD drive. If you don’t know how to change the boot order then click here. After you change the boot order press any key on the keyboard when it says “press any key to continue…” to boot it from CD. While installing make sure you install it on the “NEW PARTITION”. If you install it on your main hard disk drive then you’ll loose all your data on that drive.<in-context-comment:auto:2>

Then follow steps and install the operating you want to install.
