The highly promising LG-GD910 is set to hit the shelves next week for only UK residents for now, and will be exclusive to the Orange network. In addition to the release, the price has been announced at £500, are we still in the credit crunch?

For those of you know that have not heard of this ‘WatchPhone’, below are the features it provides:

• 1.43 inch touchscreen with software keyboard
• Voice recognition features including Text to Speech (TTS)
• MP3 player
• Bluetooth 2.0 for hands free kits
• 7.2 Mbps 3G HSDPA ( high-speed data transmission) compatability via camera.
• Quad Band

The ‘Bond-like’ gadget was first noticed by spectators at this year’s Barcelona Mobile World Congress and is set to be released on the 27th August at Orange’s Bond Street branch as a first come, first server method. However, do not worry, the LG-GD910 will be available on local stores by the middle of september.

Francois Mahieu, director of devices at Orange UK said this phone will make you stand out in the crowd and have already dubbed it the ‘must have gadget of the year,’

“The LG Touchscreen Watchphone is one of several ‘future phones’ we are bringing to UK consumers this year. Being handmade, the device really is highly original and exclusively limited, so you’ll be the envy of all your friends if you’re fortunate enough to get your hands on one.”

It can be seen to many of the public, that Orange have succesfully completed a futuristic genre of mobile phones. Hyundai had already released a much more bulkier watch-phone but did not make it as a success.

iTouch competitor to be released on September 15th!

Pricing

Speculations of Amazon and Best Buy were completely true and accurate, not surprisingly. The 16GB Zune media player will cost $220 (£132.50) and the 32GB Zune platinum model will cost $290 ( £174.80.) In addition to the pricing, Microsoft have revealed there will be five contrasting colours the portable device will be available in and the opportunity of having your name engraved in it with a choice of ten expert designs!

The big clash: Apple iTouch Vs Zune HD

There seems to be not really much in it in terms of differences in features between these two portable super heavyweights! For sake of argument, below are some of the features that the current iTouch contains:

• Touchscreen navigation
• Anytime Wireless Wi-Fi
• 576P HD video output

However, in these early days, the Zune HD has the upperhand with numerous advanced features in comparison to the iTouch including better gaming experience and OLED display, which can make all the difference at the end of the day! But then again, remember Apple are going to release their new iTouch in early September with rumours of awesome fresh feature like GPS navigation and a camera!

It’s a very hard decision to make! Both devices are just fantastic in their own ways, and consumers making decisions now are definitely narrow minded!

Revolutionary series set to be a big hit!

Data storage pioneers, Western Digital, publicized on Monday their two new spanking products, the Scorpio Blue 750 GB and the Scorpio Blue 1TB smashing the previous record for the largest notebook hard drive size which was 500 GB. The Scorpio Blue joins the My Passport Essential SE Portable USB hard drive family.

At present, the largest desktop drive is one whole terrabyte bigger than the Scorpio Blue but is still 1mm thicker, as the 1TB notebook edition is only 2.5mm thick! For the 1TB edition, Western Digital have decided to use 333 GB per platter. The SATA2 hard drive offers a 3Gbs ( gigabyte per second) transfer rate but one disadvantage to the newly released product is that it is 12.5 mm thick whereas other standard 2.5 inch drives 9.5 mm thick, thus meaning this will not be compatitble with all laptops.

The three distinct features that makes the Scorpio Blue outshine other competitors are:

• WD own tech,WhisperDrive, effectively making the noise output almost silent.
• If you drop your Scorpio, don’t worry as it is almost guarenteed not to be broken, thanks to durable Shockguard.
• For long term trust, Securepark, which boosts the protection when the HD is turned off.

Western Digital’s Jim Morris, senior vice president and GM of client systems, said this fresh revolutionary series will give lower power output and more protection:

“The convergence of the growing mobile computing and digital media trends produces demand for desktop-like capacities in portable devices. Our new WD Scorpio Blue drives enable people to take even more of their digital collections with them wherever they go and, realising the value of their data, back up their notebooks on their My Passport drives.”

Pricing

WD have started shipping the new series of notebook drives to consumers and the prices are really quite unbeatable! For the 1TB editon, it merely costs $250 ( £151) and the 750GB edition is $190 ( £115.) Why not pay an extra $60 for a whole more 250 GB since their MyPassport costs the same amount? Perhaps because not many people will get through even 500 GB in their computing lifetime!

Puppy Linux

Puppy linux is a portable operating system which is less than 100 MB(around 93 MB) and can be put up on any CD or a USB drive.It supports Live booting from a CD’s DVD’s USB flash drives and other portable media. This operating system is so easy to get used to, even an Windows user can use it without any hassle. Most people use it to just browse the web, it also has many features like Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Image editors and a lot more. The boot time isn’t so slow, it is mostly between 30-60 seconds. It automatically detects hardware and installs drivers for it which makes it even more easier for any user to use it.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu, the powerful and popular Linux operating system can be burned to disk and can be used in any computer which has an optical drive. The size of Ubuntu is near 699 mb which makes it burnable to a CD. Ubuntu already has pre-installed programs like the Open Office which is similar to other office suites like Microsoft Office, Mozzila firefox, Ecolution and a lot more. As you can see above, the pictures show that it is very easy to install almost any Application you want that meets your need. System Requirements: The Alternate installation CD’s require at least 256 MB of RAM (the standard installation CD requires 384MB of RAM). Installing Ubuntu requires at least 3 GB of disk space. Ubuntu can also be installed on a Microsoft Virtual Machine or Vmware.

Slax

This slim customizable operating system is not as popular as Ubuntu. But, it has great amount of features which a Linux fan has always wanted. With over 1,000 modules to select from their site Slax is proven to be an amazing portable operating system. Slax is completely customizable & also very easy to use. Slax can be installed easily on CD, USB Flash Key, MP3 Player, Camera or on your Computer.

The operating which mainly concentrates on your security. Black Track is another great operating system released by which can also be run from a live CD. It can be installed on a CD, USB flash drive, or can even be run as a virtual machine, or on your computer just like the other Linux operating systems.  It comes with over 300 pre-installed applications The producers of black track now made black track support more hardware and its popularity is growing day by day.

Damn Small Linux

Damn Small Linux, as the name states it is very damn small. It is very small yet very powerful. It’s a very light weight linux OS which weighs about 50 MB. It has the basic applications that you would get in any other portable operating system like the Slax. Just like any other Linux operating system DSL is free of charge and includes many different applications like an ftp client, word processor, image editor, and other common programs you would want to have. It can be run as a Live CD, USB flash drive/pen drive. Can be run on a computer which has more than 128 MB or ram with a blazing speed!

Crunchbag is a Ubuntu based distribution which has been built from Ubuntu and customized from it. Any software you will be wanting to have can be installed from the Ubuntu repository. It runs better when installed on a Hard Disk. Running Crunchbag  from your Hard Disk is better than Running it from running it from a Live CD. It is very well built but the disadvantage of installing Crunchbag on an old computer is that you get low performance which was reported by many users ro Crunchbag’s website. Installing it on a new computer is proven to work a lot better than installing it on an old computer. This lightweight operating system earned the name “A Faster Ubuntu“.
