Updates on Aug. 31, 2009: Apple today confirmed there will be a special invitation-only event on September 9th, 2009 at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts Theater in San Francisco California. This has been the place that Apple unveils its latest and greatest new products.
Apple send an email to invited press members. The email includes the image of a girl listening to an iPod and a caption “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it.” We expect Apple to unveil new versions of the iPod Touch and iPod Nano. [end of update]
The new iPod Touch is code-named “iPod3,1″ suggesting this is the third generation of revolutionary ipods.
What’s new in the iPod Touch
At this time, no one can be certain on what we will see in terms of features and functions the new iTouch will have. However, according to reports, we suspect there will be new features such as bigger screen, digital compass, GPS as well as other features. Though, integrating all these iPhone like features will make it too similar to its family member and perhaps stop the reason for purchasing an iTouch, its adaptability and uniqueness.
It is near enough time when Apple needs to upgrade the iTouch as it has been just under a year since its last revamp last September. Especially as Apple are probably the leading portable device organisation around and so have to set the standards for other competitors such as Zen.

a camera and a microphone
Wow can’t wait! I want to see the iTouch features to be identical to the iPhone as then we are getting good value for our money!
a 3.2 megapixel or better camera, and a microphone. dont really need a bigger screen. really needs a camera.
I would like my Ipod Touch to be similar to Iphone.
I personally don’t own an iPod Touch, but from every single person that I have talked to, I heard that the battery doesn’t last that long. It would be nice to have a guarantee that I don’t have to charge it most of the time.
It should have a camera.. i think the camera needs a zoom option, flash, and should also record video (with sound)!!!!! then as well more battery life, etc.
A microphone, I bought one last week and I brought it back because no microphone and no camera.
too expensive to pay just for a big screen and Wifi!

Definitely a a Camera Vid Camera (built in with camera) and longer battery life and definitely a mic . and maybe a screen upgrade not the size but the quality…A little more accurate

A camera, a Microphone, bigger screen, faster processor, more RAM, free updates like on the iPhone.
Oh yes and a much better speaker, as the one of the 2nd generation is really weak.

i’m really looking forward to this new itouch! hopefully it’ll come out before christmas. the old itouch is already great so hoping for a camera, longer battery life, faster, and the wifi on itouch really sucked btw…

I’d like not to feel ripped off by Apple, the current update being a case in point. Clearly with a 1% uptake most of you feel the same.
5.0 megapixel camera,bigger screen, GPS,microphone
I would like it to be around 1.5 Gigahertz (with overclock option) + camera, good speakers, microphone, GPS etc.

What is missing, with a great itouch is, the sound output, that is the main thing that makes such a great device SUCKS!. The other would be the battery life, if you turn on the wifi, etc features, the battery drain, very fast. A good camera, GPS would so fine…but improving the SOUND, would make the itouch a KILLER device…
defently a camera and video recorder. and be able to recive pictures.
i wish there was a way where you could tether ( for any1 who doesnt know what this is, its when you connect a computer or device to a cell phone to use the internet service off of your cell phone provider) the itouch to you cell for any1 who cant use att and doesnt want to jailbreak an iphone. it would make it better on a bus or if your driving and want to use a gps app or google maps but your not near wifi
id also like a camera microphone, and a very long batt. life they came out with new technology for the macbook battery . mabey they can use the same technology for a longer battery in the itouch and there going to come out with a new itouch supposedly in the nxt week. proof= a new ipod touch every year in the first 2 weeks of sept. and the deal for a free ipod touch when u buy a mac for colledge expires 9/8 . overalll i expect apple to do a fantastic job and i cnt w8 
Why nobody mentioned bluetooth? This would allow some phones to connect to I-touch as modem. That would be cool.
My dad said that the iTouch is better that iPhone. And base from this review, i am considering buying this
